Interview with Anne Adriaens-Pannier

'What fascinates me most is how Spilliaert’s work continues to resonate in the contemporary art world,” Anne says. “Artists such as Luc Tuymans, Michaël Borremans and David Claerbout cite him as a source of inspiration. It is not about direct influences, but the spiritual dimension and original approach that appeals to them.'

Dr. Anne Adriaens-Pannier is a Belgian art historian specializing in the work of Léon Spilliaert. She started her career in 1974 at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium and has over 30 years of research experience. Since 1997, at the request of the Spilliaert family, she has been working on the first complete catalogue raisonné, which now encompasses more than 5,000 works. These are being entered into the digital platform Panopticon for future accessibility.
